Process

My work asks:

How do we decide what something means?

How do we decide who someone is?
What information do we trust?
What information do we ignore?
What survives interpretation?

Under Continuous Review

The portraits in Under Continuous Review are generated using AI in order to avoid assigning procedural judgments to identifiable individuals.

Each portrait is subjected to a short procedural sequence generated independently of the image itself using a limited set of operational variables. Once initiated, the system runs without intervention.

The system hinges on a set of dichotomous pairs. The system determines which authored dichotomous pair will function as the initial evaluation (“Apply”). Those pairs include:

Overly Accommodating / Resistant to Collaboration
Overly Personal / Insufficiently Relational
Fails to Establish Presence / Overbearing
Strong Leadership Qualities / Natural Team Player
Results-Driven / Process-Oriented
Calm Under Pressure / Energized by Challenge

The system continues to use that pair for evaluation, either toggling or repeating.. “Toggle” reverses the active evaluative pair, while “System Override” permits the switch to a new dichotomous pair.

Procedural Dispossession

Procedural Dispossession presents fragments of institutional language within imagined email structures.

The highlighted phrases are drawn from actual correspondence received by the artist over a thirty-year corporate career. The language has not been exaggerated or edited.

The surrounding email text remains intentionally illegible. The work isolates administrative language from its original context in order to expose how institutional authority operates through repetition, tone, escalation, and normalization. Phrases such as “You’re capable. But insecure,” or “Kindly use a barrette in your hair” are presented without exaggeration or commentary.

Credibility Index

Credibility Index begins with an initial system-generated evaluation of an individual identified only by a case name. The evaluation is based on undisclosed criteria.

This preliminary assessment produces a subtotal credibility score prior to any observed interaction.

A second interaction phase introduces additional observations, bonuses, and demerits, resulting in a final credibility score.

An unexplained “adjustment” is applied by the system during this process.

OBJECTS OF MEASUREMENT

Objects of Measurement begins with familiar systems of evaluation, classification, interpretation, and self-improvement drawn from everyday life.

Each piece isolates or exaggerates a recognizable object, device, artifact, or ritual associated with judgment, observation, measurement, or meaning-making.

The works retain the visual language of authority, expertise, and cultural signaling while introducing subtle distortions, contradictions, or absurdities.

Across the project, systems intended to measure, categorize, reassure, or explain begin to reveal their emotional and psychological pressures.

Grid

The Grid is an evolving field for thinking in public. It’s something I do every day. I’m testing what it means to work with recurrence, sequencing, adjacency, and mutation. And I’m doing so with the iconography of a pair of glasses and the history of modern art.

Images, gestures, motifs, and texts reappear in altered contexts, where meaning shifts through placement and repetition rather than through narrative explanation.

In one sequence, the same gesture shifts from exuberance, to social coding, to mute archetype, before dissolving into language itself.
